1870's: Women's
ball gowns consisted of fully gored skirts worn over horsehair or
crinoline petticoats. Bustles extending across the backside and over
the hips. The full hoop was completely out of style. Formal attire was
often cut low, off the shoulders, and heavily trimmed with contrasting
lace, bows, flowers, and over-skirts, short gloves.
1860's: Full hoop was worn, off shouder top, along with short gloves, petticoats, velvet chokers, fans.
Men: Slacks, coat, tie, vest, hat. Montana cowyboy attire will be just fine for either the 1876 or the 1869 dances. |
